Fitting the Grille: Six Steps

1. Let the car sit in the shade for a while so the bumper plastics are warm and flexible, then open the hood and remove the upper radiator cover trim (push-pin clips).
2. Disconnect the battery if you will be working close to any sensor connectors.
3. Release the factory grille from its perimeter clips and ease it forward. Those tabs are the only fragile part of the job, so work them one at a time.
4. Fit the licence plate bracket and the quattro emblem base to the new grille before it goes anywhere near the car.
5. Line the new grille up with the bumper opening and press from the centre outward until every tab clicks home.
6. Refit the upper trim, reconnect the battery, close the hood, then check the panel gaps and make sure nothing sits over a sensor or camera lens.

Gloss Black ABS: Finish, Durability and Care

The gloss black finish is applied in stages — primer, base colour and a UV-resistant clear coat — rather than a single pass. That is what keeps a gloss black front-end part from chalking and greying after a couple of summers of sun and road debris.

• Wash with a soft mitt and pH-neutral soap, and rinse the mesh at low pressure.
• Do not aim a pressure washer straight at the mesh edges, the same rule as any gloss black trim.
• A light sealant or ceramic spray on the frame keeps water spotting down and makes bug removal easier.
• Small stone chips in the clear coat polish out; deeper ones are worth touching in early.
