Weight and Handling: Why the Front Fender Matters

The front fender is unsprung mass — weight that sits below the suspension and has to be controlled by the fork on every bump. Shaving grams there genuinely improves steering response and suspension feel. It is one of the few places where a small, visible part can make a handling difference you can actually feel, not just a claim on a spec sheet.

Durability, Care and Repair

  • Plastic: cheap to replace, but scratches and fades; “repair” usually means buying a new one.
  • Carbon: tough against stones and spray. Clean with a soft microfiber cloth and mild soap; avoid aiming a pressure washer at the edges for long periods.
  • Minor scratches: light scratches in the clear coat can often be polished out; deeper damage can be repaired by a carbon shop.

Choose carbon if you ride for fun, care about looks, want less unsprung weight, or plan to keep the bike long-term. A carbon fender is a permanent upgrade that holds its finish.
